OUr mission

To build a community that promotes animal welfare through compassionate services to animals and people.

Who we are

The Humane Society of Central Texas provides adoption, rescue and foster opportunities for the homeless animals at the Waco Animal Shelter located at 2032 Circle Road in Waco, Texas. Thanks to our community and supporters, even with an annual intake of about 4,000 animals, we have attained No Kill Status, meaning that at least 90% of animals that come into the shelter leave here alive for wonderful new homes!

DONATE

There are so many ways you can donate to support the lifesaving mission of HSCTX. Regardless of how you donate, your donation allows you to become a Member of HSCTX for one year!

Rescue

Nonprofit rescue partners are critical to our lifesaving efforts! They take animals from the shelter and find them loving homes, which allows us to devote more time to the animals that are still at the Humane Society.

JOIN OUR FOSTER NETWORK

HSCTX is looking to build our repeat foster network in 2024! Fostering animals in a home setting can be incredibly helpful for both the animals and the people who foster them. Here are some reasons why:

  • Saves lives: Shelters and rescue organizations are often overcrowded, and many animals are at risk of being euthanized due to lack of space. By fostering an animal, you're freeing up space at the shelter and giving them a chance to find a permanent home.

  • Provides socialization: Animals in shelters can become stressed or anxious due to the unfamiliar environment and lack of socialization. Fostering an animal in a home setting allows them to interact with people and other animals, which can improve their social skills and make them more adoptable.

  • Helps with behavior issues: Many animals in shelters have behavior issues that may make them less likely to be adopted. Fostering can give these animals the opportunity to work on their behavior issues in a home setting, where they can receive more one-on-one attention and training.

  • Can be rewarding: Fostering an animal can be a very rewarding experience. You're providing a temporary home for an animal in need, and you get to see firsthand how your care and attention can make a difference in their lives.

  • Allows for trial period: For people who are considering adopting an animal, fostering can be a great way to try out pet ownership without making a long-term commitment. If the animal is a good fit for your home and lifestyle, you may decide to adopt them permanently.
